Fall of Man, Relationship with God

Exodus 3:13–14

Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what shall I tell them?”
14 God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’ ” (NIV84)

In saying “I AM WHO I AM” God is saying, that he is what is real, not that he is what is real, but that he is what is real—He is Reality. The difference is very subtle, but important. Apart from God there is no Reality. In him is eternal life, and eternal life is in no other. Out of him there is only death. (That is exactly how the Bible defines life and death. In him is life, out of him is death) Do you define life and death the same way? Can you see the importance of seeing things God’s way? Who knows anything better than God? The Reality is what is real.

Isaiah 44:6

“This is what the Lord says—Israel’s King and Redeemer, the Lord Almighty: I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God. (NIV84)

Do you understand, fully, what this sentence is saying? Have you really pondered it? Have you meditated on it for hours? Your very life hangs on your understanding this passage. This statement above is huge. Huge. The Lord God is revealing truth to you, but you must receive it. He will NOT make you understand. You must open your own mind and ponder, and think, and meditate.

Matthew 7:7

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. (NIV84)

This is one of my favorite passages. I have spent endless hours looking for God, asking him to open my eyes to understanding. This is a requirement for everyone. This is how it works. Biblical truth is hidden and must be sought after and desired. God is gentle and will not force himself upon you.

God is saying in Isaiah 44:6 that he has all the power; all of it. And when he says that he is God, what he is saying is that he is the fullness of Reality, that he is the Author of Life and the Sustainer of Life, that apart from him there is only death and despair. My friend, you must seek to know and understand, you must ask God to show you, you must knock on his door and bug him until he shows you the truth. If you don’t look for God, then it is pretty unlikely that you will find him. He has hidden himself so that only those who seek him can find him. Those people, who in their heart of hearts, hate what is good and honorable and true, will never seek what is good and honorable and true, and so they will never see God and understand. But, on the other hand, there are those who want something different than what the world has to offer. Those who in their heart of hearts want goodness and kindness and gentleness.

Isaiah 6:9–10

He[the Lord] said, “Go and tell this people: “ ‘Be ever hearing, but never understanding; be ever seeing, but never perceiving.’ 10 Make the heart of this people calloused; make their ears dull and close their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed.” (NIV84)

For many years this passage has been a mystery to me in the light of this next passage.

1 Timothy 2:1–4

I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone— 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. (NIV84)

1 Timothy 2:4 says that God wants all men to come to a knowledge of the truth, and yet Isaiah 6:9-10 seems to say differently. What is going on?

What is going on here is that what God wants, and what God gets, are two different things. God did not create man hoping that they would fall and be lost. God created man knowing that man would fall and that many would be lost.

Ezekiel 18:32

For I take no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Sovereign Lord. Repent and live! (NIV84)

The point here is that wanting people to repent and live doesn’t mean that they will—clearly. But, Isaiah 6:9-10 seems to say that God doesn’t want them to see and repent. The first thing that you must understand in this is that every Scripture is true, so we can understand that God does want everyone to repent and live, but he knows that this will not happen. Those people who are bent on evil are lost. They are lost forever and there is nothing that can be done about it. They like evil. They like it. They like carousing at night and getting falling-down drunk. They like taking drugs and being a bad-ass. They like dominating the weak and being superior to others. Those people who like evil are lost and God wants their destruction to serve some value to those who are being saved. Those who love evil are lost, yes, but their destruction can serve as an example to those who love goodness.

The choice of good or evil is made in the heart, not in the brain. It is a decision that you make in your soul. Those people who have chosen evil for their soul will be consumed by their own evil. Even if God totally revealed himself to the world those evil-lovers would not listen. They would use that revelation of God to do more harm. They would blaspheme God ever more, and it would harm the minds of those who are on the fence, so to say. As it is, those fools are only able to deceive themselves. The truth is there to be found by anyone who will look for it, and the evil cannot understand it, so they can’t effectively oppose it. Look at this next Scripture and see what I mean.

1 Corinthians 2:8

None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. (NIV84)

See? Had Satan understood what was happening through the crucifixion he never would have played his part. God reveals the meaning of things to those who are worthy of knowing the meaning. He is able to do this because he has hidden everything in the Bible in such a way that only those who seek God can find him. Those who love evil cannot then speak effectively against the truth. The truth is a mystery to them. They ultimately sound like the fools that they are when they try to speak against what they don’t understand. Imagine someone without any mathematical understanding trying to tell you that adding numbers doesn’t work. You would look at them like they were very strange indeed. This is the way the world view people appear to those that see and understand biblical things.

The Lord will not be found by people who do not seek him from their hearts. The proud and arrogant see things with their eyes but not with their hearts. They are happy with what they think that they know. They see what they want to see and no more. They see themselves as being important and worthy.

Proverbs 21:24

The proud and arrogant man—“Mocker” is his name; he behaves with overweening pride. (NIV84)

Proverbs 15:12

A mocker resents correction; he will not consult the wise. (NIV84)

Proverbs 13:1

A wise son heeds his father’s instruction, but a mocker does not listen to rebuke. (NIV84)

Proverbs 9:12

If you are wise, your wisdom will reward you; if you are a mocker, you alone will suffer.” (NIV84)

God is who he is, and only those who put themselves aside will find him. God is invisible to our eyes, but can be found with our hearts. The heart is the mind of your soul, and it is there that you must seek God.

Deuteronomy 18:15–19

The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own brothers. You must listen to him. 16 For this is what you asked of the Lord your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly when you said, “Let us not hear the voice of the Lord our God nor see this great fire anymore, or we will die.”

17 The Lord said to me: “What they say is good. 18 I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers; I will put my words in his mouth, and he will tell them everything I command him. 19 If anyone does not listen to my words that the prophet speaks in my name, I myself will call him to account. (NIV84)

The people of Moses’ day were afraid of God. They saw God as being hard and unyielding—judgmental. They did not want to seek God on their own as Moses did. They said to Moses, You talk with God and tell us what he wants, and we will do it. Unfortunately a secondhand relationship with the Almighty doesn’t really work. Nonetheless, the people were insistent. They wanted a prophet to tell them what to do, so at the proper time the Lord God Almighty sent to them his Son, Jesus Christ.

John 3:16

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (NIV84)

You who want to see God with your eyes I have this caution for you. There is a great danger in seeing the invisible God when you are not ready. The angels in heaven could see God, and when a third of them sinned there was no restoration possible for them. They were lost with no possible remedy.

2 Peter 2:4

For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them into gloomy dungeons to be held for judgment; (NIV84)

I want you to see and understand why they cannot be saved. In recent years there has been news concerning three very beautiful and talented young entertainers who have completely come undone. I am speaking of Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, and most recently Amanda Bynes. Now, I know very little concerning these women, but I can imagine the pressure put on them from those around them. I imagine that people around them who had a financial interests were fanning the flames of their self importance. Certainly their fans were worshiping them, filling their heads with self-importance. My point is that these young women were subjected to temptations regarding pride that went far beyond what most people must endure. Pride is the number one killer—ever. Spiritually speaking there is nothing more dangerous than pride. This might surprise you as pride is usually thought a virtue in this evil world.

Proverbs 6:16–19

There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: 17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, 18 a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, 19 a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers. (NIV84)

Haughty eyes are proud eyes. The King James Version of the Bible translates this phrase as a proud look and I think that that is a better translation. Pride is the giant killer. Number one on God’s Hate List.

The difficulty for these three women was that they could see their beauty and that led them to believe themselves to be at the center of their circles. They thought more highly of themselves than was good for them. Please don’t think that I am in any way am judging them. I don’t think that very many people could have survived the same temptations, if those same temptations were presented to them. My point here is not to say anything bad about these women, but to show you the danger of seeing your beauty. If you want to curse someone with the absolute worst curse, you need only to say, “May those around you worship you.” I can think of no more horrible curse. God can take worship but humans cannot. But while we live in this world we can open our eyes and see. There is hope for the three women that I have mentioned. They have fallen, hard, and perhaps they will open their eyes.

In Heaven everyone can see their spiritual beauty, if they look. As Peter informs us above, the angels when they sinned were immediately expelled from Heaven, and sent to Hell. Why is that? you might wonder. It is because they were in Heaven, and they could see themselves fully. All sin has to do with puffing yourself up above God. What this means is that in your own eyes you believe that you can decide for yourself your destiny. That you don’t need God for yourself.

Look at this next passage. It shows us the original sin.

Isaiah 14:12–15

How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star [Lucifer], son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations! 13 You said in your heart, “I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain. 14 I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.” 15 But you are brought down to the grave, to the depths of the pit. (NIV84)

Lucifer was the first to see himself as not needing God. It is evident that he, once puffed up, preached his message of Self to all the angels in heaven, and that a third of them listened and believed. That third are those that Peter speaks about above.

And what did Satan entice mankind with in the Garden of Eden?

Genesis 3:1–5

Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”
2 The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’ ”
4 “You will not surely die,” the serpent said to the woman. 5 “For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” (NIV84)

Satan persuaded the woman with the words, “You will not surely die,” the serpent said to the woman. 5 “For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” He persuaded the woman with the promise of godlikeness. He puffed her up, and she desired to be what Satan said, and so she elevated herself above God.

The angels when they sinned could see themselves and so they were instantly and irrevocably puffed up with themselves. Seeing themselves as their own masters was so thrilling that their self pride completely filled them. It is as though they took heroin for the first time and instantly became forever addicted. Is that unreasonable? Yes, certainly, but show me a reasonable addiction.

This is the reason that God created the physical universe, and put us in it. Spiritually speaking man is created in the very image and likeness of God himself. Who could survive the pride-attack if they could see themselves in that light? That is what we are talking about here—actual godlikeness. Now, we really have been created in the image and likeness of God, but that is not something to get puffed up in pride about. God is actually not what people suppose he is. God is about “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,  gentleness and self-control.”  (Galatians 5:22–23—NIV84) God is not puffed up about himself. God is not proud.

Jeremiah 9:23–24

This is what the Lord says: “Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches, 24 but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the Lord. (NIV84)

As big as God is, he is really about being small.

What is godlikeness? This is one of the most important questions you might ask yourself. What is God actually like? To see the answer you must look at his revealed self, at Jesus Christ.

Philippians 2:5–11

Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, 7 but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death—even death on a cross!
9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (NIV84)

Wow! This is a Scripture. The more you ponder it the more amazing it becomes. The Creator comes to earth as a servant. That is selfless love. Pride certainly didn’t motivate Jesus. The King, God Almighty, humbles himself and became a servant. Every Scripture concerning the likeness of God must be understood in the light of Jesus Christ.

God put us humans, his very own children, on this physical world earth because here we cannot see our spiritual selves. Here we are one breath away from death. Here our hearts must beat or we die. Here we must eat and sleep and sweat and toilet. All of this to keep us from pride.

The Lord made this physical universe to be very much like Heaven, but also a place where we cannot see ourselves, so that pride can remain at a manageable level. God made this place so that we can come to see sin for what it is, and then choose selfless love. God hid all spiritual things from us, then came to show us selfless love in a human body so that we could see.

Look out into the world and see sin’s effect. Look and see the Creator as the humble servant that he was. Do you really think it wise to set yourself above Jesus Christ? Are you really that important?

God has revealed his plan to you. You know that to stand against God is to suffer eternal death.

Remember, God has not hidden himself from everyone. If you cannot see him, if you do not know what he is about, then seek him, to know him. Look at the world. Do you really see Heaven in its history or in its future? Pride has ruined every past civilization and will ruin this one too. The warnings of the book of Revelation are only a few years away.

You, my friend, have two paths before you. You can choose the path of prideful self, or you can choose the path of selfless love. The first is incompatible with God and the second is in harmony with God.

After your body dies you will be freed from your spiritual blindness. You will be able to see as the angels in heaven see. If you enter into that new realm still in a prideful state your fate will be the same as the fallen angels. You will be forever addicted to prideful self and that is incompatible with selfless love. However, if while you live in this world, you come to see and understand the futility of prideful self, and humble yourself before God and ask him to watch over you, then when you pass over your humble self will be accepted by the Selfless God.

Galatians 6:7

Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. (NIV84)

Examine yourself, and look carefully at the world, and choose your path wisely.

Pride is such a hard thing to overcome for many reasons. Sometimes it’s so subtle you don’t even know it’s there and other times, it’s loud and boastful. Pride can be born from a smile in the mirror or a pat on the back. It’s a whisper in your ear saying “I’m glad I’m not like them…” What makes it even harder is, in society pride is looked upon as a good thing to have. We’re told from the time we are little to be proud of ourselves when we accomplish great tasks or overcome tough situations. We hear all the time, “You must first love yourself before you can love another”.

When sincerely seeking God (I AM WHO I AM), one comes to understand how “little” we really are in comparison to Him. When Jesus came to the earth, He was the most powerful “person” alive, yet He never once said anything boastful of Himself and neither did He act that way, even when He had all the power do so. Jesus valued others above Himself and we are to do the same no matter what position we hold in this world or how much wealth we possess.

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” Phil 2:3-4 (NIV)

“Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Matthew 11:29 (NIV)

  2. Jf Says:

God is not i am who I am but the proper translation is I will be who I will be. I have gained greater insights from proper translations than by solely meditating on verses. Also the serpent in genesis is not the adversary aka Satan as Satan isn’t anything but the adversary which is understood by proper translations as they are not the same. Satan is a Catholic creation based off the god Pan (the flute playing horned man with goat legs). That’s when Jesus tells peter about the gates of hell shall not prevail as they were talking of the god pan vs the living God. Original sin doesn’t exist either as that’s another catholic creation not a biblical one as it’s known and written that all are born with both inclinations to do good or to do evil.
A man reaps what he shows is explained by .the parable of the seeds or in another term karma as what you do comes back to you so it teaches us to never be angry at what we receive back for our actions or reactions. The subconscious is our built in unbiased recorder of all our acts we do and anything out of line with our beliefs or morals etc we pay the price for. That’s why the golden rule of the whole of the law is don’t do to others that which one doesnt want done to themselves is key. Also you will be judged by the same measure that you judge.
There’s so many hidden layers and levels in the Bible that it’s a never ending and impossible to decipher all in ones lifetime as it keeps evolving as one evolves. Here’s a couple of mind benders for you all,
Jesus was 33 well there’s 33 vertebrae in the spine and the spine looks like a serpent especially if flipped upside down,
There were 12 apostles and at the top of the spine which connects to the brain where there’s 12 main connections,
Jesus was crucified at Golgotha aka the place of the skull, the skull has two temples as is why there was never a third one built,
There’s just so many hidden codes and connections that proves there is one sole creator whom is called God whom all links back to. The possibility of these above connections being connected to our body in such accuracy in mind boggling and amazing. There’s so much wisdom and more hidden in the Bible that just proves it’s an amazing never ending well.

Oh another one is how the world was created is perfectly accurate as written in genesis as the earth was formed after 2 days or on the beginning of the 3rd day and scientists say the earth took 8.6 billion years to form after the Big Bang well look at the Hindu Mahabharata and see that a Brahma day is 4.3 billion years and then see that w Brahma days equals 8.6 billion years and there’s the story of creation proved by both science and the Bible. God didn’t create one single book or religion but many just as is told by the Tower of Babel as it was destroyed and then the confusion of tongues which tells us that the truth was scattered and it’s for us to place it together. They are all roads that lead to the same God just in different tongues. Also Brahma which is Abraham also married his half sister Sarai which is Sarah remember how Abraham said she was his sister in Egypt. So again this just proves how there’s one God whom we all stem from
