God’s Seven Day Plan

Much of the Bible has meaning hidden within symbolic language while at the same time the words contain a literal truth too. This has led many people to see only the literal truth but completely miss the more important information.

Exodus 20:11
For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. (NIV)

God worked for six days creating the heavens and the earth, but on the seventh day he rested. The seventh day is a day of rest. Is this a literal truth or does this have a spiritual meaning too? Everything that the Lord God directs us to do has a reason. God is teaching us something. Through our obedience of his directions we gain a subtle understanding of greater things. If we harden our hearts to his Word then we cut ourselves off from his revealed truth.

Some truths are not obvious. Some are there staring us in the face but we just haven’t made the connection. Such is the case with the seven days of creation.

2 Peter 3:8
But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. (NIV)

This is a quote from

Psalm 90:4
For a thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night. (NIV)

These passages are not literal, but rather they are more symbolic, or if you like, they hold a key that unlocks some other passages.

The Lord God Almighty has a seven thousand year plan for man on the earth. If you take the time and count up everyone’s age from Adam up to this very day, you will see that approximately six thousand years have passed, or if you like six days. After the six thousand years we see this happening …

Revelation 20:1-3
And I saw an angel coming down out of heaven, having the key to the Abyss and holding in his hand a great chain. 2 He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan, and bound him for a thousand years. 3 He threw him into the Abyss, and locked and sealed it over him, to keep him from deceiving the nations anymore until the thousand years were ended. After that, he must be set free for a short time. (NIV)

We see here Satan is removed from the earth and held in the Abyss for a thousand years, that is, one day. During this thousand year period the world will be a very different place. This age is called the Millennial Kingdom Age.

Revelation 20:4-6
I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony for Jesus and because of the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or his image and had not received his mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years. 5 (The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy are those who have part in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years. (NIV)

Those that are martyred during the reign of the Beast will be resurrected and they will live on the earth for a thousand years! Is this fantastic? Yes. Is it unbelievable? No. Take a look a Genesis chapter six and look how long the righteous line of the sons of God live. Interesting. But, wait! There is more …

Isaiah 65:20
“Never again will there be in it an infant who lives but a few days, or an old man who does not live out his years; he who dies at a hundred will be thought a mere youth; he who fails to reach a hundred will be considered accursed. (NIV)

This passage concerns the Millennial Kingdom Age too.

Isaiah 65:22
For as the days of a tree, so will be the days of my people; my chosen ones will long enjoy the works of their hands. (NIV)

During the Millennial Kingdom the following passage will be fulfilled too.

Daniel 9:24
“Seventy ‘sevens’ are decreed for your people and your holy city to finish transgression, to put an end to sin, to atone for wickedness, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the most holy.(NIV)

Satan will be locked up and sin will have ended for God’s holy people. Things will be very different than they are now. What we can say is that during the seventh day man will rest!

Exodus 20:11
For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. (NIV)

This passage takes on a whole new meaning now.

After the seven thousand years have ended God will end the plan for man on the earth. At that time, on the Last Day, God will …

Revelation 20:7-10
When the thousand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison 8 and will go out to deceive the nations in the four corners of the earth—Gog and Magog—to gather them for battle. In number they are like the sand on the seashore. 9 They marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of God’s people, the city he loves. But fire came down from heaven and devoured them. 10 And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever. (NIV)

And then …

Revelation 20:11-15
Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done. 14 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. 15 If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. (NIV)

Then starts the eighth day, that is, the first day after the seven-day plan, that is, the first day of the new week. Does the first day of the week sound familiar? It is the day on which Jesus was resurrected! This is why he was raised on the Sunday, and it is also the day that the children of Israel circumcised their male children. They too were pointing to heaven.
